Project output and newsletter

Project output and newsletter

As I anticipated in my previous post, yesterday I made the last formal steps of the project. In particular, I: completed the review of Deliverables 2.1 and 3.1 and submitted them to the European Commission created the Output section of the website, reporting the project results circulated the newsletter among FEEM’s network In the next months (or years…) I will progressively develop scientific papers starting from the deliverables, focusing on the most interesting and promising topics: step by step, the…

Deliverable 3.1 completed – End of the project!

Deliverable 3.1 completed – End of the project!

So here we are! Two years have passed since I left for the US and now I am “celebrating” the completion of the project, which formally ends today. Well, time flies! As anticipated in the last post, in these days I quickly revised the SDG paper (which will still need some work in the future) and assembled Deliverable 3.1, which – similarly to D2.1 – is essentially the union of the abovementioned paper with the article concerning climate participation, simply…

Climate participation – Paper completed

Climate participation – Paper completed

So the last paper of the MERCURY project has finally been completed! As I anticipated in my previous Research post, I had to work a bit during the Christmas holidays, but in the end the desired objective has been achieved! In these days I have been working a bit on the SDGs paper: of course I do not have the opportunity to do anything special, but of course it is good to go through it and possibly revise some details,…

Climate participation – Scenarios completed

Climate participation – Scenarios completed

In the past days I completed the scenarios of the climate participation exercise according to the scheme that I described at the beginning of the month. I did not have time to develop a huge exercise, but I think that some interesting conclusions may be drawn from the runs. In the next couple of weeks of course I will enjoy the Christmas Holidays, but I will also have to find time to work a bit. In fact, I will have…

Final seminar at FEEM

Final seminar at FEEM

Last Friday I gave the final seminar of my Marie Curie project here at FEEM. The presentation covered Work Package 2, which essentially is the core of the scenario assessment exercise characterizing the second year of the MERCURY project. The title of the presentation was “Future prospects of renewables, CCS, and nuclear in the EU and beyond: results from the MERCURY project”. The presentation essentially replicated the structure of Deliverable 2.1: an introduction to the project and to WP2, followed…

AIEE – Milan

AIEE – Milan

In the past days I participated in the third annual Energy Symposium organized by AIEE, the Italian branch of IAEE, the International Association for Energy Economics. Indeed this conference did not require a long journey, as it was organized at the Bocconi University, here in Milan. By the way, this was the last conference of my MERCURY project, which will end on next January 15, 2019. Honestly, in terms of research, I did not find any outstanding presentations in the…

Climate participation – Concept and scenarios

Climate participation – Concept and scenarios

As you read in the last post, in the past days I finally completed Work Package 2 and I could start the main activity of Work Package 3. I talk about “main activity” because, as you might remember, in 2017 I worked a bit on a side activity focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), whose paper I presented at the EAERE conference in Athens. In this last research task of my MERCURY project I would like to focus on…

Nuclear paper and Deliverable 2.1 completed

Nuclear paper and Deliverable 2.1 completed

Finally in the past days I completed the paper regarding the nuclear task of WP2. Methodologically, the paper is similar to the CCS one: I tried to describe the different power generation futures related to the several scenarios explored, but above all I analyzed the relevant policy costs: differently from the CCS case, where the delayed deployment of CCS does have a considerable effect on policy costs, for nuclear I did not find major changes across scenarios. But I don’t…

COBHAM – Milan

COBHAM – Milan

In the past days I participated in the workshop titled “Best practices for modeling human behaviour in IAMs”, where I remind that the acronym IAM stands for Integrated Assessment Model, i.e. the model family that comprises my WITCH model. The workshop was organized in the context of COBHAM, the ERC project coordinated by my Supervisor Massimo Tavoni. Behavior is a relevant aspect in Integrated Assessment Modeling, which has become topical in recent years. The research question is quite simple: IAMs…

Seminar at the JRC

Seminar at the JRC

Last week I was invited to give a seminar at the JRC site in Petten, the Netherlands. As most of you surely know, the JRC is the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. It features seven research institutes distributed across five sites in five different European countries (in addition to the headquarters in Brussels). Petten is the main site of the Institute for Energy and Transport (which also has some units in Ispra, here in Italy). My presentation was…
