Bitcoin is probably one of the most topical issues in these weeks. We are all impressed with the astonishing growth in its value that every day achieves a new record high.
What many might not know, though, is that the generation (technically, the “mining”) and the exchange of this currency entails a huge energy consumption: in this article, the meteorologist Eric Holthaus provides some interesting data and discusses how this might jeopardize our efforts towards climate change mitigation.
As always, I link the Wikipedia webpage for those who would like to have more details concerning this energy issue, or concerning Bitcoin in general.
